Yesterday, Rachael Ray began her viewer competition, Hey, Can You Cook?

The finalists had been narrowed down to 5.  Angie, Pat, Chrissy, Pete and Suzanne received the honor.  Pete for some reason stands out to me.  Maybe it is because he is the only man, but for some reason I find myself cheering for him.  Angie I don’t quite get.  She actually did win the first challenge and did a great job with her appetizer choices, but I don’t understand why people feel the need to play a part the minute a camera hits.  I wouldn’t want to be known as the “bad guy or gal”, I would want to be remembered for the fact that Hey, I Can Cook!

Anyway it all began yesterday and the challenges were fun to watch.  It makes you think how you would handle each step and what recipes you would come up with.  The initial challenges were a type of culinary tour through New York City, beginning at Tavern on the Green and ending up at the Pier.

They had to first husk some oysters….this is very hard if you have never done it before.  I think that I would still be there at that table trying to pass inspection.  The next part was rolling out the perfect pizza dough, where my man Pete had quite a bit of trouble.  The hard part about that challenge was that most of us probably roll out pizza, but aren’t necessarily concerned about a perfect large circle.  The contestants then headed down to China Town to eat some unique Chinese delicacies and attempt to match them up correctly.  I was really disappointed in how wimpy Chrissy was during this challenge.  Not only should you just suck it up and get through it, but I personally find it offensive when people are squealing and squirming when they are eating another culture’s food.  Not only is it insulting, but she appeared like a child.  Do you want to win or not??

For the Elimination, they ended up at the Pier to cook on a yacht for some Rachael Ray fans.  I was personally surprised to see Chrissy leave over Pat.  Pat’s food was not very creative and looked just so-so.  I think that even Pat was surprised.

The contest continues each Monday until May 19th win the final challenge will be given and a winner announced.

So, who’s your favorite?
