Top Chef Season 4: Meet the Cheftestants-Zoi

Zoi is 30 years-old and lives in San Francisco.  She grew up in Seattle, WA and is self-taught.

A restaurant consultant living in San Francisco, Zoi began cooking at the age of 19 and has worked with some of the greatest chefs on the West Coast. After traveling extensively through Europe, she believes her food reflects her love of Greece and Italy. Zoi describes her cooking as simple and rustic and emphasizes the importance of using local, seasonal ingredients whenever possible.

Zoi is the Chef de Cuisine at the Presidio Social Club in San Francisco.  The reviews I have discovered mostly rave about the incredible drinks, but no one spoke ill of the food.  When I hear words like “self-taught” and “rustic”, my mind thinks “lack of classic training” and “not a top chef”.  I am far from being a culinary snob, but as this contest has shown there is a lot to be said for education even in cooking.  Of course, last season we had Casey who couldn’t chop an onion, but had a talent for creating innovative and delicious meals.

Season 4 of Top Chef premiers on Bravo March 12.
