Ellie Krieger: The Food You Crave

Ellie Krieger has a new cookbook out, just in time for the “Healthy Eating Season”. Yes, this is the time of year where everyone wishes they were at least 10 pounds thinner and the airwaves are saturated with diet and exercise.
Ellie Krieger has been on this bandwagon for a while though. Her Food Network show, Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger, attempts to help the viewer make tasty recipes that meet all their desires minus the 2 sticks of butter. I actually enjoy her show, but I must admit I have yet to try anything…of course, I have downloaded a few recipes.
The Food You Crave: Luscious Recipes for a Healthy Life is a guide to better eating, without the sacrifice. If you are craving something salty and crunchy, instead of that bag of potato chips how about some Spiced Pita Chips, they actually look very good. For the sweet tooth, Triple Chocolate Cookies.
Do you think that healthy food couldn’t possibly taste good? Does the idea of “eating healthy” conjure up images of roughage and steamed vegetables? Author Ellie Krieger, host of Food Network’s Healthy Appetite, will change all that. A registered dietitian, Ellie is also a lover and proponent of good, fresh food, simply but deliciously prepared. And she’s not about denial–no nonfat foods here, because when you take the fat out of natural foods, in go the chemicals. Don’t deny yourself butter–use a pat of it, but put it front and center on those mashed potatoes, so you can revel in it with all your senses. The Food You Crave is all you’ll need to change the way you eat and change the way you feel. It contains 200 recipes that cover every meal of the day and every craving you might have. Every recipe contains a complete nutritional breakdown, as well as tips on ingredients and techniques that will keep you eating smart and eating well.
Krieger also has a website with the support of Food Network to help you on your path to a slimmer/healthier you. Hmmm, I wonder what their cut is? Anyway, Healthy Living with Ellie Krieger currently costs $4 a week. The membership entitles you to access to recipes, a daily meal planner, personal recipe box, shopping list tool, food log, nutrition look-up, calories calculator, eating out guide, custom fitness plan, activity calculator and a bunch more. If you are someone who needs a lot of guidance, are really confused about what to eat and need a one stop shop this may be the way to go. Personally, all of these things are available all over the Internet for FREE. My problem isn’t “What do I do?” It’s, “Oh, yeah…I will take care of that tomorrow.”
If you are interested in Ellie Krieger’s new cookbook, The Food You Crave, it is available at all booksellers and Amazon.

Just bought the book, so haven’t tried the recipes in there, unless they have been duplicated from her Foodnetwork TV show, “Healthy Appetite”. Every recipe I have tried from her show has been doable and delicious. The last recipe I tried, a berry cobbler, using some wheat flour in place of white flour, and very little butter, was 210 calories a serving, and exceptionally delicious. The great thing about this recipe is that it even leaves room for some low fat ice cream to serve with it, which I did not hesitate to do. I can’t wait to work through her book, recipe by recipe. Even though I can print her recipes from her show off of my computer, I simply had to have a collection of hers to refer to from a book.
