Top Chef, Season3: Episode 7

The Quickfire Challenge this week was a no brain-er, yet Hung, who I think uses his brain too much found a way to screw it up. My question to him is, “Have you ever eaten icecream???!!” He wanted to do something different, not tasty I guess. He made the insane decision to add cauliflower, tempura chips and some weird foam…again with the foam….to an incredibly tasty vanilla ice-cream from Cold Stone Creamery. I wonder if he ever watches Iron Chef? The ice cream machine has destroyed many a chef attempting at originality with shrimp flavored ice-cream. BLAH!!! What was he thinking?
Howie proceeded to be a complete jerk. I understand not being involved in the drama, etc…but don’t be the thorn in every one’s side. Did he ever watch this show? Does Howie realize that if he does make it to the finals, he is going to have past contestants who hate his guts as Sous Chefs???
Padma told the group that they were going to get a taste of Miami nightlife, and again as I sat there watching, and said out-loud, “Did these people, EVER, EVER watch this show????” What brain cells have been zapped from your heads that you actually don’t even suspect that this could end up being a challenge? Then Casey and Sara N. whine about not being appropriately dressed. Casey got over it for the most part, but Sara N. was whining up until the very end, because she had Howie on her team, a low-cut blouse (I guess showing cleavage in your Chef photo is OK??) and high heals. Boo hoo-hoo, get over it already and cook. I think that Anothony Bourdain nailed it on the head, when none of her team mates confronted her about her attitude. They saw an easy way to get rid of some one. Sara N. was her own worst enemy and then to say to the judges that she was “demoralized”….getting the ax could not have been a shock to her. Bourdain put it best:
In the end, Sara N. didn’t lack for talent. She lacked fire in the belly. All chefs, at various points in their career, must reach an accommodation between what lives in their hearts and the requirements of the marketplace, and of the situation on the ground. They must choose every night between head and heart, compromising in ways large and small according to circumstances.

I learned about you from my son! He loves your show and tried your lobster tail, etc., etc., for his girlfriend on Valentines Day.
I love the pot roast as I am not much of a fish eater.
