Foodie Obsessed

Across America: Raleigh

by Tracey Thompson on July 17th, 2007

NASCAR

It seems that North Carolina may not only have NASCAR, but also some incredible food.  The Early Show stopped into Raleigh, NC this past Friday as they continued going Across America with Food and Wine Magazine.

Walter Royal of The Angus Barn was the highlighted chef.  The focus was on beef, of course.  North Carolina is devoted to BBQ and tauts great ribs:

Raleigh, N.C., is obsessed with pork and beef, and Walter Royal is doing his part.

He’s one of America’s top chefs, and the Raleigh restaurant whose kitchen he runs, the “Angus Barn,” serves over 600 steaks a night.

Other specialties? Luscious baby back ribs, and chocolate pies.

A longtime favorite in Raleigh, the Angus barn opened in 1960, in a large barn right off a main highway. Royal has delighted diners there for 11 years.

Take a look at the Food & Wine Raleigh/Durham Weekend site to check-out restaurants, bars and hotels.  Some of the top restaurants in the area are The Piedmont with French & Italian cuisine or for something not as fancy The Raleigh Times Bar and don’t miss Locopops.  Locopops is a snack place with Mexican Popsicles.  I have had these before and they are REALLY GOOD.

It seems that North Carolina may not just be the birth of NASCAR, but also some great food.
