The Great American Candy Moves to Mexico

by Tracey Thompson on July 13th, 2007

Hershey’s closing

There is so much in the news about illegal immigration, out-sourcing, Union control, and loss of factory jobs this is yet another depressing story to hear.  I had heard about it, but it left my thoughts, until I read about it at Chocolate Bytes.

One of the first American candy companies is starting to close plants and move them to Mexico.  This is a story that is getting sadder and sadder to hear.  If you don’t live in an area that owes its life to the manufacturing industry, you can’t begin to understand the impact closings like these have.  This is a story that is being repeated all around the country.  In the end, it will effect us all.  Is anything being made in this country any more???  This country was built because of manufacturing and people raised families with these jobs.  I don’t know what the answer is, but it is not to have everything we eat, wear and use carry the label, “Made anywhere but the USA”.

I don’t know if I can handle Hershey’s being made in Mexico?  It would almost be as bad if I heard Tequila being manufactured in China.  Are the stockholders of Hershey’s suffering?  Maybe they should switch places for a week with the good people they just laid-off.  Globalization has arrived, and it will become America’s downfall.  The haves are having more and the have-nots are having even less.

I guess Hershey can stop calling their candy the Great American Candy and start calling in the cheap Mexican candy. Is nothing sacred?

Shame on you Hershey Foods!!!! This is like taking Apple Pie and Hot Dogs out of the U.S. I will no longer buy any Hershey Foods products. You better find a new slogan because you can no longer refer to Hershey as the Great American Candy! How sad.

the smart money is saying that all 3 US automakers will be gone by 2015–and the unions with them, which has been the real target of NAFTA backers from the beginning. Too bad the public still hasn’t figured the big picture out. Funny thing, after a factory gets moved to Mexico and the corporate execs cut their labor costs by 95% or so, NONE of the savings ever gets passed back the the US public–yet the doltish public still clogs the parking lot at Wal Mart. Boycotts are the ONLY answer the greaseball executives fear and understand—yet the public still hasn’t managed to muster personal integrity when they buy–so be it—just remember that CRYING has never made a difference in a crisis

Hershey Kisses where always in my Grandmother’s candy jar when I was a kid and I loved everyone of them. This is truely a blow to the heartbeat of America. We are losing the very fiber that holds this country together… OUR JOBS. Illegal alien workers already drive the standard American wage down and leave alot of Americans unable to sustain themselves with a manual labor job. Big Corporation get rewarded with illegal amnesty guest worker programs meanwhile the true American middle class suffers. We need to turn off Faux News, get out in the streets and demand our Country back. Ron Paul for President!
