The Deen Brothers Cookbook

by Tracey Thompson on May 23rd, 2007

The Deen Brothers Cookbook

The Deen Brothers have finally released their very own cookbook:  The Deen Brothers Cookbook:  Recipes from the Road.

According to Amazon:

You’ve seen the Deen brothers, Jamie and Bobbie, on their Food Network show Road Tasted. You’ve heard about them from their beloved mom, cookbook author and Food Network Host Paula Dean. Now, take a vicarious road trip with these good-old-boy charmers and learn how to make their tastiest regional recipes yourself. More than a cookbook, this is a slice of life, packed with more than 100 fabulous recipes inspired by foods Jamie and Bobby have tasted during their travels, plus inspiring color photos, snapshots of the brothers “on the road,” and personal stories about growing up in the South.

It sounds great.  The reviews from readers as well as critics have been mostly positive and rave about the recipes.  According to Publishers Weekly:

Fans of Food Network personality Paula Deen are well acquainted with her sons Jamie and Bobby through her program, as well as their own culinary travel show, “Road Tasted.” This companion piece to the series recounts their visits to mom-and-pop establishments across the country, alongside the Deens’ own take on featured establishments’ signature dishes. Readers need not be familiar with the program to find the book useful, as the brothers offer a selection of dishes ranging from regional specialties such as Lobster Rolls and Brats to Truffles and Rosemary Lamb Chops. Some recipes, such as a basic cole slaw, require little preparation, and more involved recipes like Crab Corn Cakes with Basil-Jalapeno Sauce are still relatively easy to prepare. The book’s focus on specific locales and their dishes elevates it a step above most of its type; instead of offering a basic recipe for grits, for example, the Deens offer a twist: two ounces of goat cheese. Traditional thumbprint cookies benefit from ground pecans incorporated into dough which is then rolled in chopped pecans; and corn bread is greatly enhanced by the chopped bacon and sautéed apples folded into the batter. These memorable touches guarantee that this cookbook quickly becomes dog-eared from regular use.

To take a look at the cookbook or purchase your own copy, go to your nearest bookseller or Amazon.

I’m looking forward to reading their book. They seem like such a nice family, you can’t help but wish them all the best. Or as their Mama would say; “Best Dishes”!

I skimmed through the entire cookbook in the bookstore and I was really impressed with the recipes. Just like the review says, there are plenty of easy, few ingredient dishes, but they are new and look great. I just ordered it online. You really need to take a look at it because it’s different — in a really good way.

To be honest, I bought the cookbook for the pix. Some of the recipes do look good, but the pix of Bobby are even better. Yum!
