25 Great Foodie Gift Ideas: #22 Flip Waffle Maker

A kitchen gadget that has long been a staple in restaurants is making its way to the home kitchen.

Flip waffle makers are the way to get your waffles to look and taste like the ones you get at your local breakfast diner.  They are a little more expensive ($80-$200) then your basic $20 waffle maker you can pick-up at Wal-mart, but if you love sitting down to a great breakfast and want to get the great taste and crispiness you do when you eat out, then go and purchase a Flip Waffle maker.  They are made by the like of Krups, Kitchen-Aide and Waring Pro and I have seen them available at Lowe’s, Amazon.com and QVC.

Villaware (pictured above) is one manufacturer you can find at stores like Williams-Sonoma:

Like those used in busy restaurant kitchens, the top and bottom heating units of the waffle maker are rotated 180 degrees during cooking so the grid fills evenly with batter, ensuring evenly browned and crisp results. It speedily produces one round 6 3/4″ diam. waffle, a generous 1 1/2″ thick, with deep pockets for butter and syrup. You can adjust crispness by selecting among seven browning levels, and a chime signals when the waffle is ready. And thanks to a nonstick finish, cooked waffles release easily. Cast-aluminum housing. 16″ x 8 1/4″ x 6 1/2″ high. A Williams-Sonoma exclusive.

With Valentine’s around the corner, a great gift idea is possibly to purchase it for that someone special and then take it a step further and make a delicious breakfast-in-bed with some great waffles, strawberries, Mimosa and don’t forget the rose.
