Jamie Oliver & Nora The Dinner Lady
Just in case you are not up to speed, Jamie Oliver has a mini-series style documentary on TLC which follows his quest to change the horrific cafeteria food that England’s children were eating at school.
Jamie met Nora
“The Dinner Lady” at his first test school. At first Nora was no too thrilled with Jamie, but then she quickly became one of his staunchest allies. Nora helped him put together the program and train the other Dinner Ladies.
Nora is quickly becoming quite the celebrity around England and now has her own website, Nora’s Kitchen and a cookbook, Nora’s Dinners, quick and easy dinners for families to cook together.

I think most adults who went through a public school system in the USA or UK can attest to the absolutely atrocious food being served to children there.
I went through HS in the 80’s and I was always puzzled as to why THAT food tasted completely different from the junk food you could buy down the street from the school. They had hamburgers, burritos, pizza but the accomplishment was astonishing…school junk food managed to taste WORSE than real junk food. When you take into consideration how bad commercial empty-calories junk food is, one can only come to the conclusion that school food is just repackaged prison food.
I think Oliver is off the mark when he tries to make kids eat gourmet food. Kids hate that stuff. He should be focusing on making something like a simple burrito or a pizza slice that tastes good and is nutritious.
