Top Chef: Episode 11 - Farewell Dave Martin

by Tracey Thompson on May 19th, 2006

Thanks to a frantic life in Motherhood this week, I just got to my TIVO and Wednesday’s episode of Top Chef.  As soon as they said that this week’s quick fire challenge was going to be an elimination, I knew that our dear, frantic Top ChefDave Martin would be leaving us.

Admittedly, Dave did become a little harried as usual and it cost him this time around.  Of course, the food choices and taste of Miss Faison’s inventions landed Tiffani in third place after three sets of prepared dishes (the last one being so bad no one wanted to eat it), but we all knew that it would end this way.  Harold vs. Tiffani.  Good vs. Evil.  It makes for much better television.  One of the teasers for next week’s finale showed previous contestants coming back telling the judges who they would rather work for…hmm, I can’t imagine what their answer is going to be.

As for Dave Martin, do not feel too bad for him.  Thursday he made an appearance on the Today Show to demonstrate how to make his Black Truffle Mac and Cheese…yeah, rriiigghht…at over $200 a pound,  I will whip that up this weekend for lunch.

Dave was also on his way to Cannes (remember he won that challenge) and he said that he has gotten tons of offers for writing a cookbook and merchandising.  Hmm?  Maybe a little bearded action figure with a blue bandanna that says, “I’m not your bi**h, Bi**h!”

Stay tuned next Wednesday at 10pm, for the Grand, Grand, Finale.

I so did not miss watching this awful show! I hope they don’t decided to repeat it. You have to wonder about Bravo sometimes.

I enjoyed the show. Considering most of the crap on TV these days it was refreshing. I think probably I was most surprised by the profanity used on a regular basis by just about everyone. I’m not saying I don’t use it when I feel it’s necessary (not that it ever is), but it was almost as bad as the Osbournes!!!!! I also doubt most real people eat that stuff!! Didn’t Stephen say about 77% do not? I liked the things Harold prepared for the snack foods in Vegas–chicken, etc. My kinda food! I hope Harold wins. About the only thing I’d like to see Tiffany do is take a long swim in Lake Mead!

I LOVE this show!!! WAY better than the food network’s next star show! Anyway, I really hope that Harold wins, I think he is not only a better chef than Tiffany, but also a better person. But I don’t think that Tiffany is all bad, she’s just intense. I know they were all saying that, but I really think that in her case it’s true. I don’t agree with some of the things that she did though.
Harlod deserves to win, he is in my opinion, the top chef… he obviousally makes wonderful food, and he doesn’t blame anyone for any mistakes. He’s humble and willing to learn or teach others!

Top Chef took cues from MTV apparently. There has to be at least one flaming you know what in the bunch. Face it dammit, they’re entertaining to watch with their emotions on their sleeves.
One thing I just can’t understand, how the heck can Billy Joel hook up with such a hot wife like Katie Lee? The man looks like a spider monkey!
